Housing project in Affoltern, Switzerland Prof. Annette Gigon ETHZ
The task of the studio was to plan a housing project in the conurbantion of Zurich, with wood as its constructive theme.
Urban form: The proposed project consists of two buildings. The first volume marks a strong presence along the main circulation axis, while a second volume developps in the depth of the plot. They define a turning point on an urban scale and fill the gap between two different types of typologies: housing bars from the 70’s and an isolated group of rural farms.
Program: 23 appartements of various sizes are generated. On the ground floor along the street, the building offers space for shops in order to bring diversity to the neighbourhood.
Construction: The construction is made entirely out of timber, except for the concrete cores. The facade, also made of wood, consists of an arrangement of fixed parts, windows and sliding shutters.
